Challenge: The Community Veterans Engagement Board (CVEB), previously under UnityPoint Hospitals’ military foundation, needed a distinct logo to establish its new identity as an independent organization. The goal was to increase their presence in the Quad Cities community, attract donors, volunteers, and provide support to local veterans. The logo had to reflect their mission and resonate with the local community while maintaining a connection to their national affiliation with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Results:

  • Strong Visual Identity: The final logo effectively established CVEB’s new identity as an independent organization. It resonated with the local community and reflected the board’s mission to support veterans.

  • Increased Recognition: The logo’s unique blend of national and local elements made CVEB easily recognizable in the Quad Cities area, aiding in their efforts to attract donors and volunteers.

  • Positive Feedback: The CVEB team and community members praised the logo for its professionalism, relevance, and aesthetic appeal.

Design Process:

Discovery and Research:

  • Client Brief: Discussed goals, target audience, and the transition to independence with the CVEB team.

  • Market Analysis: Analyzed logos of other CVEBs and local organizations for common themes and differentiation.

Concept Development:

  • Word Association: Brainstormed themes using keywords:

    • Veterans → Soldiers → American eagle → Flag colors

    • Local → Quad Cities → Centennial Bridge → Mississippi River → Illinois/Iowa map

    • Help → Hand → Shield → Volunteering → Empowering → Resources

  • Mood Board: Created a mood board focusing on the flag, Mississippi River, and Quad Cities.

  • Initial Sketches: Developed multiple sketches based on the mood board and themes.

Design Refinement:

  • Concept Selection: Chose and refined three sketches that represented CVEB’s mission and identity.

  • Client Feedback: Presented concepts to CVEB team and made adjustments based on their feedback.

Finalization:

  • Polishing the Design: Refined the chosen concept for clarity, balance, and visual appeal.

  • Color and Typography: Finalized a patriotic color palette (red, white, and blue) and selected bold, readable typography.
